Chapter 627: Battle of Beasts: Daily Life on the Greenskin Farm
The orc, wearing coarse cloth and a necklace of animal teeth around his neck, fell to the ground.
He was beheaded by Vito.
One sword strike cut off his entire side.
This was the last greenskin, and as he fell to the ground Vito looked around.
The plains were littered with greenskin corpses, their unique skin color forming a horizon that stretched as far as the eye could see.
It even formed a low hillside there.
Vito returned to the trenches.
There are many Imperial Army, Marines, and a few Stormtroopers crowded here.
They moved around here, carrying sandbags to strengthen their positions, and putting back the shield walls that had been knocked crooked.
The new recruits on the ship came down here to practice target shooting on the greenskins who didn't have guns. The Adeptus Mechanicus also came down and took this opportunity to experiment with several new weapons, as well as the unknown alien weapons they obtained a while ago.
And more importantly.
Throw out all the greenskin corpses in the trenches.
This was a huge project that took up most of the time of most people. Not only did they have to clean up the trenches, but they also had to remove all the corpses piled outside in front of the trenches and at the foot of the mountain close by.
At first they would burn them with fire, but soon gave up.
Because there will always be greenskins rushing back in the shortest possible time, holding their primitive weapons made of stones, teeth and bones, and then rushing towards the trenches without hesitation.
Vito crossed the trench and found Olaf at the other end.
The old wolf stood outside the ruins of the dilapidated church, with the charred earth and the same charred green stone head at his feet.
Several of them stopped between movements and turned into dark sculptures.
"Olav."
Vito greets him.
"Vito."
Olaf returned behind the church's low wall.
"We have been here for a month Vito, what have we done this month?"
He said.
“Get up in the morning and drink a cup of coffee, then shoot some green skin, then have lunch and enjoy the afternoon sunshine, kill time with a wave of green skin, then have dinner, eat some toast and sausages, and then drink on the evening walk. One round of green skin, time flies so fast.”
Vito laughed, but someone clearly disagreed.
"It's not fast at all! It's like a year here."
"I thought you liked fighting, swinging axes, and eating after a beard of blood, Ragnar."
"Oh, that has to be a real battle, not this kind of battle here."
"What's going on here?"
"What's wrong? Here I am just like the servitors I dismantled, repeating the same thing every day! Kill green skins, chop green skins, and then repeat the round ten minutes later, and the most important thing is a little change nothing!"
Ragnar was very excited at first because he could fight a long battle. He was the first to rush out of the ship door and go to the battlefield.
But now he complains the most. In the past few days, he has repeatedly emphasized the boredom of this battle, the boredom after repeatedly charging greenskins with simple weapons, and hacking and killing.
"But it's exactly what you said here."
Lancelot was also with him, his black armor covered in greenskin blood, and his gray cloak turned red.
"This place has become a sea of greenskins."
"It's so boring."
Ragnar complained.
"It's the same every time."
They came over, and Vito turned towards the plain beyond the church parapet.
Endless green skin corpses lay there, and new green skins were already gathering in the distance.
But Vito didn't care about them, just like they didn't care about how many times the orcs had attacked and how many corpses they had left behind.
"At least the stormtroopers and marines on the ship have a good place to practice their guns and train."
Vito said.
There happened to be a Stormtrooper behind the low wall beside him who fired a shot.
He made a bet with his comrades on whether they could hit the greenskin one kilometer away. The stake was a few boxes of cigarettes.
He won.
"I think they did learn a lot of the techniques of positional warfare."
Olaf said.
"But it's already here. It's been a month. It's time for you to finally tell us the meaning of being here, right?"
After Olaf asked, Ragnar and Lancelot also came over, and the three of them waited for an answer in front of Vito.
"Eisenstein should have come, he must have enjoyed this repetitive attack and defense."
Ragnar said.
Eisenstein is not here.
He stayed on Tempest, and Vito let him stay.
"I need someone here to prevent accidents and keep an eye on the idiots here before they cause more trouble behind our backs."
This is what he told Eisenstein at the time. Although he was not very willing and wanted to come here with his brothers, as an Imperial Fist, he chose to obey the order.
He remained on Tempestus, where Yarrick was also, who had returned to the Iron Legion and commanded the remaining reinforcements that had arrived to defend the Ring of Steel.
And Vito and the others came here, Calkas 27, on a desolate planet, but that was in the past, and now it is full of life, with green skins covering the mountains and plains.
After the green-skinned corpse was launched to the planet, only two short weeks later, the place was covered with green-skinned mushrooms. It was a great harvest. They first attacked each other, and then landed on Vito's group. Then they swarmed here again.
"This is a grand event. We are like a tempting feast served on the table. Greenskins from all over the world have come to the feast."
Lancelot commented shortly after landing, describing the appearance of every festival in his hometown of Cologne, describing these greenskins as peasants who heard their lords holding a feast outside the castle.
"We have killed enough greenskins here."
Olav said.
"Why? You owe us an explanation. Every time you say you will tell us after the next battle."
He folded his arms and stood behind Vito.
"You must tell us this time."
Vito glanced at them and smiled.
"Okay."
He said.
"Just this time, I will hold a feast here to attract greenskins."
"But not from here."
He added.
No one interrupted him, because these few words could not make people understand what he meant, so Vito continued.
"We kill enough greenskins here to attract more greenskins to come here. The more they are, the stronger the waaaaaaaage energy will be."
"We will attract more greenskins."
Vito said with one hand on his waist, the Phoenix Sword leaning against his thigh.
"There are quite a lot, there is almost no room outside."
Ragnar said.
"It has piled up into a mountain. Lancelot and I have killed countless greenskins in the valley where the greenskin corpses are piled up."
"No, no, no, I am not inviting them, not the greenskins here."
Vito shook his finger and smiled.
"We have created a planet-level waaaaaaage energy field here, which is enough to attract all the greenskins in the vicinity of the entire galaxy, including the greenskins at the large star zone level."
"In this way, we don't need to look for the Bone Crusher, his people will run out of the dark by themselves."
Vito said, and Lancelot frowned, showing a surprised and strange expression.
"You want to lure the greenskins here for a decisive battle?"
"It's to destroy them in one fell swoop, which is easier."
Vito shrugged.
"I don't want to destroy the greenskins in all the star regions and planets, and then spend more time burning the greenskin spores. I'd rather sit in the palace with this time."
"Palace?"
"It has nothing to do with this time."
Vito interrupted this extended topic with a firm tone.
"How can you be sure that the greenskins will take the bait?"
Olav asked.
Vito turned back and smiled at him.
"My old friend, they are greenskins."
"There is a battle to fight, why don't they come? How many have we killed here?"
"I can't remember clearly, roughly estimated to be millions."
Cole's voice sounded with the beeping of the communicator, and Vito turned it on.
He brought news that the Infinite Frontier had discovered a greenskin fleet that appeared at the edge of the galaxy cloud. There were quite a lot of them, and the flames from the thrusters alone had formed a brand new nebula.
Vito asked Cole to prepare to retreat, and the stormtroopers and marines on the ground all retreated back to the ship, and then pointed to Mandeville.
"You go back too."
Vito said and walked out of the low wall of the church.
"What about you?"
Olaf asked from behind.
"Me?"
Vito smiled and turned back.
"Spring cleaning."
The Aquila flew down from the sky and landed in front of Vito.
"Wear sunglasses when you look here after boarding the ship."
He said with a smile, boarded the Aquila and flew to the sky.
